IMMORTIALISE DORA AKUNYILI……..OGUN LAWMAKER TELLS FG, ANAMBRA GOVT

The untimely and sudden death of renowned Professor of Pharmacology, Prof Dora Nkem Akunyili OFR has been widely reported as very shocking, unfortunate, disheartening and a great loss to the generality of Nigerians and the women folk in particular. She was said to be a distinguished Nigerian who displayed a very high level of patriotism, dedication and commitment to the service of her fatherland. On this note, a lawmaker with the Ogun State House of assembly, Hon. Adijat Motunrayo Adeleye has called on the Federal Government and  that oif the deceased home state of Anambra to immortialise the distinguished woman of substance.

According to the lawmaker, “her legacy as director general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control {NAFDAC} and as a Minister of Information and Communication will remain indelible in the history of this country. In 1998, as the Zonal secretary {South east} of the Petroleum {Special} Trust Fund, She returned the unspent medical allowance given to her  and as such, confirmed her high level of honesty and integrity.”
The lawmaker continued by saying “most pathetic is the fact that Dora Akunyili , a great ambassador of the womenfolk, dies at a time when Nigeria women are in dire need of women of impeccable character, women of substance who will champion our course especially, politically. Indeed, many of us look up to her as a model and we admire her courage, resilience, doggedness and conviction of the Nigeria project’.

She  opined that the death of Prof Akunliyi should not be limited to condolence messages in view of her inestimable contributions, selflessness and sacrifices during her struggle against counterfeit and fake drugs coupled with her efforts towards the re-branding of Nigeria.” I an convinced and very strongly   that Prof Akunyili deserves not only a state burial but also a meaningful immortalization by both the Federal and Anambra Governments. This, will motivate and encourage other Nigerians who might want to emulate her sincerity, honesty and patriotism.’

Hon. Adijat Adeleye Oladapo concluded by saying  Prof Dora Nkem Akunyili will be gratly missed especially by the women and she will be remembered all over the world as an incorruptible Nigerian whose belief in the unity, positive transformation and progress of Nigeria remained unshaken even at the point of death.
