Buhari should check Fulani herdsmen assault on Yoruba people now- OPC

"The killing of one our members by Fulani herdsmen in Chief Olu Falae's farm in the outskirt of Akure, Ondo State, has once again brought to the fore the danger posed by the herdsmen to their peace-loving host communities" stated Comrade Ogunsanya Pius, Ondo State Coordinator of Oodua People's Congress.

He went further "The heartless murder of Ayodele Ige, the coordinator of the OPC in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State would not be allowed to be swept under the carpet like many of several other innocent people killed across the country by Fulani herdsmen.
It is particularly worrisome that these people have continued their killing spree across the country without any major condemnation by the Federal Government. It is even more worrisome that the innocent victims were brutally murdered for daring to challenge the Fulani herdsmen for grazing and destroying their farmlands."

"It is strange that the security agencies have found it difficult to put an end to these wicked acts by Fulani herdsmen despite repeated cases of killings and arson against them from all over the country. The story is the same from Enugu to Edo, Akokoland to Oke Ogun and other parts of the country.'

"Information available to us was that Ige was abducted by the Fulani herdsmen after several of their efforts to enter into Chief Falae's farm were repelled by our members who have been watching over the farm after the abduction of Chief False by these same people.
The attack by the Fulani herdsmen on the property of a Yoruba leader cannot be allowed to continue.
For us, the killing of one of us is an attack on all of us, much more when that person is a leader. "

"Let it be known that we have taken this path of peace, not because of cowardice or because of the fear of these people. We want a peaceful, equitable and united Nigeria, which is the pillar of our struggle. But we can no longer bear it that the blood and sweat of our people are continually used to appease Nigeria."
"The OPC and indeed the entire Yoruba nation can no longer tolerate these acts of gross impunity against our people by Fulani herdsmen.
Meanwhile, it has come to our notice that a bill tagged "The Fulani National Grazing Reserve", is presently before t National Assembly. The bill has successfully scaled through second reading in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. For it to become law is to pass through the third reading."

The bill seeks provide for the establishment of a national grazing reserves and stock routes. It is sponsored by Senator Zainab Kure.
The Bill proposes to establish a National Grazing Reserve Commission (NGRC) for the country. The NGRC will be charged with the responsibility of using funds received from the Federal Government to forcefully acquire farmlands from Nigerians in all the 36 States of the country, develop same at Government expense through the provision of bore holes, water reservoirs, etc; for the exclusive use of nomadic cattle rearers.
Without any doubt, this is a very dangerous proposal for Nigeria. We all have seen how the Fulani herdsmen kill and maim members of the community where they graze their cattle without the backing of any law.  I am sure that we can only imagine what their attitudes would be if the supposed grazing reserves are forcefully taken over by government and handed over to the herdsmen.
The nation is sitting on a box filled with gun powder and it would only take the quick intervention of all well-meaning Nigerians to avert this danger.
We want to use this opportunity to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to come out and condemn these dastardly acts by Fulani herdsmen across the country.
We want the police to fish out the killers of Ayodele Ige, which is the only way to cushion our loss.
And let the President know that the killings in Agatuland and other parts of the country cannot continue forever. It is only a matter of time before the people stand up to defend themselves.
And for the family of Ayodele Ige, the entire members and leaders of OPC share in your pain over this irreparable loss.
However, we want to assure you that we would not rest until those behind this wicked act are brought to justice.

Breaking News : IBINABO GETS N2M BAIL!

Nollywood actress and ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who was sentenced to five years imprisonment for manslaughter was granted N2m bail earlier today by the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

The appellate court, in a two-one split judgment, decided that Fiberesima’s application for bail had merit.

Justice Samuel Oseji, who read the lead judgment, granted the N2m bail Fiberesima with two sureties in like sum.

The court said the two sureties must be resident in Lagos and must each swear to an affidavit of means.

Justice Oseji said he was inclined to exercise discretion in Fiberesima’s favour in view of her health and because there was no record that she had jumped bail in the past.

The judge said it would amount to injustice if after Fiberesima had been kept in prison, the Supreme Court later, after about three to four years, decided that the five year jail term imposed on her should be set aside.

Justice Sidi Bage, who presided over the proceedings, aligned himself with the lead judgment but the third member of the panel, Justice Y.B. Nimpar, dissented.

Justice Nimpar said the ill health grounds upon which Fiberesima anchored her application for bail was untenable.

The judge noted that there was no record before the court that Fiberesima had suffered any complication since February that she underwent surgery for breast cancer and April when she brought her application for bail.

Besides, Justice Nimpar said there were adequate medical facilities in the prison to cater to her health needs, adding that the prison hospital could also give her referral for consultancy in the event that she has any condition that could not be taken care by the prison hospital.

“The surgery was uneventful. The surgery was done in February, now we are here in April and there is no complication.

“The applicant is already convicted and presumption of innocence is no longer available.

“I personally will not exercise discretion in favour of the applicant,” Justice Nimpar held.

In support of Fiberesima’s bail application filed through her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina, one Victor Eden had deposed to a six-paragraph affidavit stating that Fiberesima recently had a surgical operation for breast cancer.

Eden said in the affidavit that Fiberesima was afraid that her life might be endangered if kept in the prison custody.

He had urged the court to grant her bail in the interest of justice.

Fiberesima was in 2009 convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos State High court.

The judge had held  that her reckless driving was responsible for an auto crash, which claimed the life of one Dr. Giwa Suraj on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

While sentencing actress to five years imprisonment, Justice Oluwayemi overruled the decision of a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court which earlier ordered her to pay N100,000 for the offence.

Not pleased with the judgment, Fiberesima, through her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina, approached the Court of Appeal, seeking to upturn the judgment.

But in a judgment on March 11, 2016, the Court of Appeal dismissed her appeal and upheld the five years imprisonment imposed on her.

Again, not pleased she further appealed to the Supreme Court and urged the Court of Appeal to grant her bail pending the decision of the apex court

GENERATOR EXPLOSION KILLS FATHER, TWO DAUGHTERS

Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajibade (65) and his daughters, Wuraola (19) and Shakirat (15) died on Tuesday in Somolu area of Lagos when their generator exploded. The incident, according to neighbours, happened about 10p.m. at 5, Adebiyi Street, Somolu.

According to the  account of New Telegraph, witnesses said Ajibade was pouring fuel inside his generator near a burning stove at the back of their apartment while Shakirat held the torchlight for him when the generator exploded. The sound of the explosion, the neighbours added, attracted Wuraola’s attention. According to them, she rushed outside but fell into the fire while trying to rescue her father and sister.

It was learnt that the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Rachael Ajibade, ran out of the house Unclad with her last child when she learnt of the tragedy. Ajibade’s first daughter, Mrs. Tawa Olasunkanmi, said she could not believe her father and two stepsisters had died. She said:

“I was on my way home after closing from shop when I got a phone call from my father’s neighbour that my father and my stepsisters had been consumed by fire. Immediately, I went to his residence only to see a mammoth crowd in the compound. Some people were wailing.

I was told my father died as a result of fuel explosion when he was refilling his generator.” Mrs. Rukayat Ibrahim, a neighbour, said when ‘Alhaji’ returned from work, he asked Shakirat to prepare tea for him. She went inside the room to prepare the the tea, while her father went to fill their generator near where she was boiling water. But they did not know the generator was leaking. “Shakirat on her phone’s light for her father to see. Suddenly, there was a loud sound which attracted everybody in the compound.

“That is all I could remember. I don’t even want to think about it. It is a big loss to this community.” A neighbour, who did not want his name in print, said, Wuraola would have survived the incident because she went inside the room to get milk for the tea when she heard the loud noise. According to him, Wuraola saw her father and sister burning but while trying to save her father who was close to her, she fell inside the fire. He said: “It is an awful experience. They all burnt beyond recognition.

It was difficult for the firefighters to access the house. The crowd was massive. Nobody knew they were trapped there. We thought they escaped. The firefighters went through another building and brought out their remains. That was when we knew they were dead.”

Ajibade, it was learnt, was to be appointed as the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Onipanu Phase 2. The NURTW Chairman, Bajulaiye Abiodun Unit, Mr. Sulaiman Allison, said he was with Ajibade on Tuesday at the motor park to discuss the latter’s proposed inauguration. He said: “I was surprised when I received a phone call about his death.

That is why I came to sympathise with his family. His death is a big loss to the union in Somolu. We will miss him.” One of Ajibade’s daughters, Shukurat Shabi, said it was difficult to believe that her father and sisters were gone. She said: “My father was a hardworking man.

When it is time for him to be rewarded for his efforts towards the progress of transport business in Somolu, he died. He bought a new bus three weeks ago to complement the one he had. He took fuel from the same bus to power the generator which caught fire.”

A neighbour, Vincent Achum, described the fire as mysterious. Achum said that about N400,000 the deceased collected from a cooperative society also got burnt. The burnt naira notes littered the compound. He said: “It was unusual for the deceased to return home early because he was plying Fola Agoro-Onipanu route.

But yesterday (Tuesday) he came early and asked for a cup of tea. He died without taking the tea. But to our surprise, the fire did not spread to other apartments in the compound.” The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, said the fire was caused by fuel storage in the compound. He advised residents to desist from storing petroleum products in their homes to prevent loss of lives and property.

The Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) was said to have evacuated the remains of the deceased to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary.

CCT :HOW POWER FAILURE INFLUENCED ADJOURNMENT OF SARAKI’S CASE

Power failure has compelled Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), to adjourn the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki to April 18.

When the lights went out, a pale blanket of darkness descended on the courtroom and there was intense heat. The power failure occurred while Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), counsel to the federal government, was leading a prosecution witness in evidence.According to the account of The Cable.

Earlier, Kanu Agabi, counsel to Saraki, had pleaded with the judge for an adjournment, but Umar said that he was ready to continue the case until 6pm on Wednesday.

Luckily for Agabi, the lights went out and the judge was compelled to adjourn the matter.

Power was not restored even as of the time of filing this report.

Earlier at the proceedings, Michael Wetkas, a detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had detailed how Senate President Bukola Saraki allegedly received monthly salaries from the Kwara state government for four years after leaving office as governor.

On Tuesday, he had also alleged that Saraki used fictitious names to launder billions of naira. Testifying against the senate president at the CCT the EFCC detective said, among many other revelations, that Abdul Adama, one of Saraki’s personal assistants, made transaction 50 times into the former governor’s account in a single day, broken down to N600,000 and N900,000 on each occasion.

He added that “after that, one Ubi made a lodgment on the same day about 20 times in the same range of N600,000 and N900,000.”

On Wednesday, Wetkas also alleged that the senate president , made corruptly obtained cash deposits of $10,000 18 times in one day into his account with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).

STRANGE TREE GROWS IN BETWEEN A HOUSE

Money Laundering: EFCC Presents More Witnesses Against Dariye

A forensic expert and witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on April 5, 2016, told a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, sitting in Gudu, that the signatures on the bank mandate card of Ebenezer Retnan Ventures, and other opening account packages with then All States Trust Bank, ASTB, belong to Joshua Dariye.

The former Plateau State governor who is being prosecuted by the EFCC on a 23-count charge bordering on money laundering and diversion of funds, before Justice Adebukola Banjoko, is alleged to have diverted about N204million meant for the state treasury to Ebenezer Retnan Ventures. He is also alleged to have siphoned the state’s Ecological Fund to the tune of N1.162billion.

Investigations into the alleged fraud had revealed that the mandate card and account opening packages, though had a signature but no passport photograph, while the name on it was, Haruna Dariye – apparently to conceal the real identity of the bank account’s owner.

The forensic document examiner, Dabi Dashong, of the EFCC’s forensic unit, told the court that the team of investigators probing Dariye, had requested the unit to analyse the signatures on the card and other account opening packages, with the aim of identifying its “author”.

“There were two sets of documents, which included the account opening package of All States Trust Bank in respect of Ebenezer Retnan Ventures, and a specimen, which is the signature on the statement Dariye made,” he said.

Dachong, while being led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Adebisi Adeniyi, explained that three methodologies were employed, before arriving at the conclusion that the signature actually belonged to the former governor.

The methodologies, according to him, included visual analysis, stereo microscopy to allow for fine detail analysis of the handwriting in Dariye’s statement (the specimen), and video spectral comparator, used to lay both the disputed and specimen signatures side by side for comparison and demonstrative chart.

He said, “In forensic analysis, no two writers can share the same combination of handwriting characteristics, natural variations exist for every writer and no writer can exceed their skill level.

“The conclusion of the analyses confirmed that the author of the known specimen’s signature on the statement of Dariye, is also the owner of the disputed signature on the bank documents.”

Dachong, under cross-examination by G. S. Pwul, SAN, counsel to Dariye, stressed that the signatures were thoroughly analysed.

The prosecution also presented its eight witness, Mohammed Kwairanga, a police officer on secondment to the EFCC, who was part of the investigation team that visited Plateau State in 2008.

“Investigations were carried out on several properties allegedly owned by Dariye and we found out that some of them actually belonged to him, and the case file was handed over to the forfeiture unit and the legal and prosecution unit,” he said.

Justice Banjoko, thereafter, adjourned till April 19, 2016 for continuation of trial.

Senators Loyal to Saraki advised him to Resign

In other not to be humiliated while on the throne, some senators including those who had vowed to remain with him to the end of his trial at the anti-graft court, yesterday, asked the Senate President to consider the resignation option so as to save the Senate, as an institution.

Vanguard gathered that the option was thrown to him at a special meeting held by a group of some loyal senators, who followed him to his Maitama residence, shortly after the end of yesterday’s trial at the court.

But as Saraki is considering the option, senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, appeared to be at loggerhead with their counterparts in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the Senate President’s successor.

While the APC senators are insisting on producing Saraki’s successor, those of the PDP are favorably disposed to anointing one of their own, a development that has further polarized the Red Chamber.

A senator of the PDP fold, who spoke to Vanguard late yesterday, but on condition that his identity would not be mentioned, said Saraki was given the option of resigning basically to save the institution of the legislature.

‘”I can confirm to you that at a special meeting held yesterday, we asked the Senate President to consider the option of resignation.

“We believe that doing so would preserve the institution of the Senate, “he said, refusing to speak further.

Asked whether the Senate President was considering the resignation option, the lawmaker said ‘” this was just thrown at him this evening. We believe that he would do the right thing.'”.

Meanwhile, names of senators Abdullahi Adamu, representing Nasarawa West from the APC and Suleiman Adokwe of the PDP were being touted as possible replacements of the Senate President to press time.

No Reconciliation with Fayose- Aluko

Tope Aluko,  the former Secretary Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  has described the purported reconciliation between him and Governor Ayodele Fayose as unreal. .
He said he was under duress to admit to a reconciliation which was aimed at tarnishing his integrity.
He said he had gone to Eko Hotel Lagos on Sunday, April 3, to honour an invitation by the PDP leadership to address some issues affecting the state, stressing that Ekiti has been in the news for the wrong reason in recent times.
Aluko said he went to the meeting in the company of his wife and was shocked to see Governor Fayose walked into the meeting. He said he was obliged to be at the meeting because he was invited by two senior members of the party.

“I need not recall the drama and face off that ensued between me and Fayose inside the meeting. It is worthy of note that it was at this point that my wife badged into the meeting to inform me of the presence of pressmen.

“At that point I became I became enraged and decided to leave the the place but I noticed Governor Fayose rushing after me downstairs in a gestapo manner.
“My wife was already fidgeting and almost crying and suddenly I could not find her around me. I immediately realized that I need to oblige Governor Fayose’s instruction of the facing the press because of the safety of my family. “

The former PDP scribe stressed that he never refuted his earlier position and still stood by his words. “I have earlier said before before Nigerians and the whole world about the manipulation that characterized the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State and still stand by all I said.

“You will also notice the several counter allegations by Fayose and his media team that none of them has refuted all I have said, rather the attack has been on the messenger and not the message. I will like to apologise to all Nigerians that perhaps, accepting the invitation was a tactical error.

“I will also like you to know that I am dealing with a master fraudster who is always full of mischief. You will allrecollect how he announced the purported death of Hon. AfolabiAkanni; the purported arrest of four members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly that later resurfaced.

” I need to emphasize that all that transpired at Eko Hotel on that faithful day was an organized propaganda/drama to stain my image and malign my personal integrity and I believe it would be a good script for Nollywood act,” he said

A wedding ceremony taking place at Takoradi Aldersgate Methodist Church in the Sekondi/Anaji, Ghana on Saturday, April 2, 2016 was cut short after policemen stormed the church's premises and arrested the bridegroom over suspected armed robbery. The arrest is in connection with a robbery case at Aniamote, a community in the Wassa Amenfi District in the Western region.

FG RETURNS SUBSIDY, RETAINS N86.50 PUMP PRICE

Yesterday,  Federal Government  recommenced the payment of subsidy on petrol as it subsidised the commodity by N5.84 for every litre of premium motor spirit consumed in Nigeria.

Subsidy on petrol was stopped in January after the review of the pricing template of the product by the government.

It also announced that the current official pump prices of petrol would remain at N86 per litre when purchased at filling stations run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and N86.5 per litre when sold at outlets operated by other oil marketers.

The government further said petrol scarcity would end in a few days, but was silent on the specific day or date.

Figures from the latest pricing templates of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency released on Saturday, showed that the Federal Government was paying N5.84 as subsidy on every litre of petrol sold at non-NNPC filling stations.

The PPPRA is the agency of the Federal Government that regulates the prices of white products — petrol and kerosene, across the country.

According to the agency, the Expected Open Market Price of petrol for non-NNPC stations as at April 2, 2016, was N92.34 per litre, against an official pump price of N86.5 per litre, leaving an under-recovery or subsidy of N5.84 per litre.

Similarly, the template for NNPC-run stations showed that the government was paying N5.80 per litre as subsidy, as the EOMP for outlets in this category was N91.80 per litre as against an official rate of N86 per litre.

The EOMP is the actual cost of petrol without subsidy and comprises of the landing cost of the product as well as its subtotal margins like transporters charge, admin fee, dealers cost, bridging fund, etc.

On the retained pump price of petrol, the Acting Executive Secretary, PPPRA, Mrs. Sotonye Iyoyo, said, “The agency is retaining the retail prices of N86.00 for the NNPC, and N86.50 for the other marketing companies. The pump price of household kerosene also remains unchanged from what it was in the last quarter.

“Therefore, marketers are advised to ensure that there is no price distortion in their respective retail outlets. PPPRA, however, shall continue to monitor the global oil market performances, and come up, at appropriate time, with reasonable changes consistent with the newly-adopted price modulation principles.”

On news making the rounds that the agency was planning to increase the petrol price, Iyoyo urged members of the public to ignore such rumour, as prevailing market indicators do not support such.

She also called on motorists to desist from panic-buying, stressing that “PPPRA was working hard with other sister-organisations to ensure that the current supply and distribution challenges were resolved within the coming days.”

Meanwhile, the agency stated that it had released the second quarter allocations for the supply of petrol, based on the approval of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

It said, “In the latest release, the apex national oil company, the NNPC, has 41.74 per cent of the total allocation, while the rest of the oil marketing companies got a total allocation of 58.27 per cent.”

NO CONTEST! OTUNBA GANI ADAMS REMAINS OUR LEADER - OPC State Coordinator

No Vacancy in OPC, Otunba Gani Adams remains only authentic Leader. Wailers should keep quite.

Alhaji Adesina Musedik Jimoh in a sharp reaction to a report generated from  a purported meeting by some self-acclaimed leaders of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), he describes  them as disgruntled people, who have been expelled from  OPC for bringing the name of the organization to disrepute,

"As  leader and  state coordinator in OPC for more than a decade, I am in a good position to speak on the matter.
While we have maintained maturity in the handling of the matter up until now, I think it is time that we and all sincere and honourable members of the OPC come out to denounce these people masquerading as leaders".
"It is rather unfortunate that Moruf Salami, the former Kwara State coordinator of the OPC, who was picked by our leader in 2006, Otunba Gani Adams, from the position of a deputy state commandant and made the state coordinator, would now turn around to bite the fingers that once fed him "
" I think Moruf Salami and his cohorts should come out and tell the world whether he was appointed by ifa when he was made the state coordinator. It is indeed funny that he has suddenly realized the important place of ifa in the scheme of things soon after he was replaced by a more competent, vibrant and better qualified candidate, Comrade Oladipo Olayinka who was picked by ifa.

It is also sad that Moruf Salami, who was a state coordinator, has suddenly fallen down the ladder to queue behind another man who was dismissed from the OPC as a local government coordinator .
According to our sources who attended the meeting, it took the intelligence of the Shagamu divisional police officer to avert trouble. The group, because of their lack of vision and leadership, was out to cause violence which would have brought untold hardship on the people, but for the grace of God.
I am aware that, of the 76 persons that attended the meeting, a larger portion of them left unhappy, as their supposed leaders failed woefully to articulate their agenda and vision.
It may interest Nigerians to note that this is not the first time that people would break away from an organization. In those instances, those people have broken away to form a new organization of their own.
So, why has it been difficult for these people, who have consistently claimed that they are breaking away, to go on and form a parallel organization? Of course, the reason is not far-fetched for people with discerning minds.
The simple reason is that they lack the mental capability to put together the necessary structure to build a successful organization like the OPC. Therefore, for them, the only way out is to bring down Otunba Gani Adams, a man they have all, at one time or the other, praised with the best superlatives there are.
I dare them to come out and tell the world what their vision and programmes are if truly they have one. Of course, it is not surprising that they have no ability to come up with anything meaningful, except to be hired thugs for their pay masters, who they also work for as attack dogs.
Meanwhile, I think the time has come to alert well-meaning and responsible Nigerians on the dangers of allying and giving undue recognition to these people. They are a danger waiting to happen and harmful to the society of sane human beings. Otunba Gani Adams remains the only authentic Leader of Oodua People's Congress.
