ANTONIO BROWN 8-HOUR MEETING WITH NFL ... Over Rape Allegations

DSS Means Department Of State Services NOT Department Of Sowore Services: Presidency

Lauretta Onochie, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on social media has reacted to a comment by Femi Falana, SAN, that the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, has stopped taking his calls over Omoyele Sowore’s matter.
Falana who was reacting to a statement issued by Peter Afunanya, spokesman of the DSS, said, although, he has an official relationship with the Bichi, the DSS DG has refused to speak with him since the agency refused to release Sowore, despite a court order granting him bail.

“I confirm that I have an official relationship with the DG of SSS. But since the commencement of the case of Sowore and Bakare, the DG has refused to pick my calls while I have since become a persona non grata in the office of the SSS.
“With respect to the baseless allegation that I am playing to the gallery by demanding for the release of my clients in line with the valid and subsisting order of a competent law court, I shall take appropriate action under the law.”
Onochie, while reacting to Falana’s comment, hailed the DSS DG for ignoring Falana’s calls saying the Department of State Services is not the Department of Sowore Services.
In a tweet in Friday, the presidential side wrote: “Good job DG Bichi.
“DSS means Department of State Services NOT Department of Sowore Services.
“The demands of the DSS are unambiguous, clear and straightforward.

“Tell the Sureties to go and sign him out.”

Children abandon parents corpses 7 days on burial ground as paramount ruler stops interment

Corpses of the husband and wife, late Mr and Mrs Okon Effiom Ekpe-Owo abandoned by the children over an argument on the burial ground has caused health hazard to the Ikot Uduak community in Calabar Municipal local government area of Cross River State.
The corpses were brought out for burial on Saturday, November 8th, 2019 but an argument ensued over the burial ground as the Village Head of the community, Efio-Awan Asuquo Asibong told DAILY POST in her palace on Thursday evening that the deceased were not indigenes of the community, hence cannot be buried on land.
She stated that the children of the deceased have abandoned the corpses for seven days in her compound and was posing health hazard as the offensive odour has started coming out, exposing the inhabitants of her community to health hazard.
Her Highness, Efio-Awan Asibong said that the deceased and their children were her tenants, explaining that they don’t have any documents to the land. “One of the deceased sons came to me and said he was looking for a place to bury his parents.
“I showed him a place in their family compound across the road to bury his mother and father and he agreed, but other family members rejected the place and he didn’t come back to tell me. Instead, they came with the people and insisted they must bury their parents and started digging the graves.
“I had earlier brought people to help dig the graves for them where I originally showed them, but when they started digging the grave in the place I showed them, (Not my compound), one Clement Ene, went and drove the boys digging the graves away and said he wants to bury his parents in my land and I said no.
“Based on this, the family abandoned the corpses under the canopies in my compound for over seven days now, causing people to desert the compound given the offensive odour emanating from the corpses.”
Speaking with our reporter, a man who claimed to be next to the Clan Head of Uduak Edem Clan, Oyoyo Etim Oyo Ita said that officials of Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) came and saw the corpses and have commenced legal action against the family members for abandoning the corpses of their parents in an open place.
He said judgement was entered against the children and one of the principal actors was sentenced to three months imprisonment or a fine of N40, 000 and since he did not have the money to pay, he was remanded in the prison at Afokang in Calabar.
He also said that the court ordered the remaining family members to evacuate the corpses within 24 hours and that the 24-hour has since expired.
He said, “Instead of them evacuating the corpses, the children brought in suspected cultists who inflicted mayhem in the community in which some people sustained injuries.”
Consequently, another man who claimed to be a family head and gave his name as Orok Bassey Okon Umo lamented the incident, noting that CUDA would come and evacuate the corpses to mortuary pending when the deceased family will come and take them for burial.
One of the deceaseds’ son, Bassey Okon Effiom told DAILY POST on phone on Thursday, “I wasn’t around, but I was told about the incident that took place and that Village Head took Police to arrest my brother and other family members including my aunt, about three of them and two came back.
“She did all that because of the land. Yesterday, when the paramount ruler said we should come and dig the ground and bury our parents and as we were digging the ground, the Village Head’s ‘boys’ came in with guns, shooting, and they drove people away.
“She asked the boys to cover the ground we dug. She needed the compound and the land, we can’t fight her, however, anyhow she wants to do with the corpses, let her go ahead and do it. She arranged with CUDA and we don’t have the muscle to fight her,” he stated.
At the time of filing this report, the corpses were still outside where they were kept since Saturday at Ikot Uduak community, along MCC Road by Timber Market in Calabar Municipal local government area of Cross River State.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr says NFF will not force him to choose NPFL players

“I never accept it to make a choice coming from the officials; my choice is the choice of sports arguments only, to take the best players.
“Unfortunately, we could not take more players from the local league because they did not play, so it was difficult for them to be fit.
“I know that some people cannot be happy about my choice but I can tell you it is my choice, it is always honest.
We are going to domesticate Gernot Rohr in Nigeria and domesticate him to our leagues, that’s just it,” the NFF boss said.
He needs to move around, watch some of the league games. We are not saying take a player from here and bring him to the Super Eagles immediately.”
Rohr’s contract with the Super Eagles ends in June 2020 but the NFF are expected to give the coach a new deal.

EPL: Xhaka set to join Arsenal’s Premier League rivals

Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka, could be on his way to Newcastle after the Magpies expressed interest in signing him on loan in January, the UK Telegraph reports.
Xhaka is expected to leave the Emirates next year and Newcastle will offer him a chance to stay in the Premier League.
AC Milan are also keen on the Switzerland captain, but Steve Bruce is confident that the player would be open to moving to St James Park.
Xhaka has not played for the Gunners since he was stripped of the captaincy, for clashing with fans during their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
The 27-year-old is eager to leave, as he is worried about playing time under Unai Emery, ahead of next summer’s European Championships

Five Nigerian states in ‘quiet’ push for foreign funds in Johannesburg

At least five state governors are currently making quiet moves to secure funding for some of their capital projects as the African Development Bank (AfDB) assembled direct foreign investors in Johannesburg this week.
The states are Kwara, Cross River, Abia, Ekiti and Lagos, which remotely came into the picture through its $280 million cable car project.
The ‘sky car’ project will span 12 kilometres from Ijora, Iddo and Apapa; to Lagos Island (Adeniji Adele, Obalende), Falomo and Victoria Island.
Capt. Dapo Olumide, the chief executive officer of Ropeways Transport, promoters of the Lagos ‘cable car’ project, told The Guardian there are clear signs the project would come to light within the next four years.
“The Lagos cable car project,” he said, “will become fully operational within the next four years, now that we have concluded the funding process for the financing of the $280m project.”
Although a handful of Development Financing Institutions are involved, The Guardian gathered that the trio of African Development Bank, Africa Finance Corporation and African Export-Import Bank are the major financiers.
This came as the United States’ International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC), led by Adam Boehler, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to mobilise additional $5 billion for the continent over the next five years.
AfDB president, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, disclosed that the bank and the IDFC would co-finance about $2 billion each, just as Boehler announced that the United States government has doubled the size of its IDFC Africa fund from $30 billion to $60 billion and simplified its investment portfolio to include equities.
Although none of the state governors could speak directly on why they made a quiet appearance at the AIF, the governors of Kwara, Abia and Cross River were seen holding private discussions with potential foreign investors at the “upper chambers,” hardly accessible to newsmen.
Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu, the special adviser to Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu later told The Guardian that the state’s chief executive was at the forum at the invitation of Adesina, in connection with the AfDB-assisted infrastructure development programmes, especially the Enyimba Economic City project billed to sit on 9,803 hectares of land and spanning three local government areas of Abia State.
Nwaogu explained that approvals from relevant agencies of the Federal Government, including the Ministry of Finance and the Debt Management Office, have been secured for an initial $200 million AfDB-assisted project.
It was gathered that the AfDB had, three months ago, advanced $1million for ‘project preparation’, including the production of development designs for a 300-kilometre component of an original 500-metre road project.
“We came to thank the AfDB and appeal for speedy approval for the designs that are ready,” the governor’s aide told The Guardian. “He (Adesina) has offered Abia State two more (funding) opportunities, including the $2.5 billion Abia Agro-Processing Zone, which the governor has mandated his team to work on.”
According to Nwaogu, AfDB, following Ikpeazu’s Johannesburg visit has invited the governor to the Ivory Coast headquarters of the bank in January next year to meet with AfDB’s project team, with a view to looking at the scale of progress and approving the designs in phases.
Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi could not speak to the media as he emerged from a private meeting. His aides were however seen sharing prints of the ‘Ekiti State Investment Guide,’ a copy of which was also given to The Guardian. A major preoccupation of the Fayemi administration currently is the Ekiti Airport project.
Cross River Governor Ben Ayade was not available for comments. But one of his aides, in response to an inquiry by The Guardian, confirmed that it was connected with his two pet projects, the $2 billion Deep Seaport and the Superhighway.
The state government needs President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval for a sovereign guarantee on the project.
The deep seaport project embarked upon by Ayade recently attained a major milestone with issuing the Outline Business Case (OBC) certificate by the Federal Government. A sovereign guarantee will, however, boost its actualisation and provide succour following years of hardship occasioned by the loss of Bakassi, a major oil-producing hub.Displaced Bakassi people are hopeful that the project will make up for the many losses following the ceding of their ancestral homeland to Cameroon. The Bakassi Deep Seaport is expected to be the flagship of Nigeria’s ports.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who entered a special boardroom in the company of his Cross River counterpart, was also said to have come seeking support for his pet projects. A source close to the Kwara Government House told The Guardian: “Yes, Kwara is seeking investments in the health sector, agro-processing (especially sugar cane value chain), e-governance, education, industry, etc.”
Contrary to its relatively impressive showing at last year’s African Investment Forum, during which transactions worth more than $7 billion dollars were reportedly sealed through heavy private sector deals, the Nigerian Federal Government did not make a significant presence at boardroom discussions this year.
The Guardian nevertheless spotted President Buhari’s newly appointed Economic Adviser, Sarah Alade, on the sidelines of the three-day event. Last year, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, major private sector investors including Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Tony Elumelu had made significant input at the forum.
Though there was a hint of attendance by the Minister of Finance yesterday, it was unclear why there was no official representation beyond the participation of Nigerians heading international agencies like African Export-Import Bank, Bank of Industry and a few business groups. On the contrary, presidents of many African countries participated in plenary and breakout sessions.

Edo APC crisis worsens as Oshiomhole’s NWC suspends chairman

There seems to be no solution in sight for the imbroglio the ruling All Progressives Congress has intricately woven for itself in Edo state, as National Chairman of the Party seized an organ that he controls to suspend the state chairman, Anslem Ojezua.
Simultaneously, the National Working Committee announced the establishment of a reconciliation committee, in a crisis, in which Oshiomhole himself is a party and has been suspended by the local chapter.
This maybe why the APC Governors forum has asked Oshiomhole to call a meeting of National Executive  Committee of the party, which last met in 2018. The forum further asked Oshiomhole to resign if he cannot play the role of a leader.

In a statement that questioned Oshiomhole’s penchant of driving the party into one crisis after the other, the APC governors wondered: “Why should the NWC under Comrade Oshiomhole continue to imagine that it can conduct affairs of the party without mandatory meetings of party organs?
“What legacy is Comrade Oshiomhole hoping to achieve as a National Chairman, by running the party in a way that suggests almost zero commitment to issues of party development?
“In the current circumstance, nothing short of a NEC or National Caucus meeting of the party can resolve all our increasing organisational challenges as a party.
“It is either Comrade Oshiomhole respect the provision of party constitution and convene superior organ meeting to deliberate on all our challenges, or he should just accept his inability to manage the party and simply resign.
The governors statement was issued by Salihu Moh. Lukman, the DG of their forum, who out of concern for party unity had sent an SOS earlier to the leadership of the party to call Oshiomhole to order.

Gunmen kill three policemen in Kaduna

Three policemen serving at Fadan Karshi Outpost in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State were on Tuesday gunned down by unknown gunmen at a checkpoint between Fadan Karshi and Sabon Gida village.
The Vice Chairman of Sanga Local Government Council, Abubakar Abba, confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
He added that the bodies have been deposited at the Gwantu General Hospital.
“Two Policemen died on the spot and the third one died on the way to the hospital.
Meanwhile, investigation had commenced as security agents have swung into action while members of the community have been urged to be calm,” he said.
He decried the increase in the wave of crime in the area and appealed to relevant security agencies to rise up to the challenge.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of Kaduna State Command, Suleiman Abubakar, an assistant superintendent of police, confirmed the incident.
He said a statement would soon be issued on the development.

Governor Emmanuel wins at Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal, Calabar, has affirmed the judgement of the election petition tribunal that Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom, was validly elected in the 2019 general election.
The appellate court in its judgement on Wednesday declared that the appeal by the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its governorship candidate, Nsima Ekere, lacked merit and, therefore, dismissed the case.
Mr Emmanuel was a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He is currently doing his second term.
The PDP in Akwa Ibom said the latest judgement was a confirmation of the “sanctity of the ballot”.
“In the well-considered judgement, the noble Lords of the penultimate court, held the Appeal was lacking in merit, agreeing with the tribunal that the APC did not lead credible evidence to prove their case and that they had dumped documents in the panel without linking them, as required by law,” Ini Ememobong, the PDP spokesperson in the state, said in a statement.
“By this judgment, the judiciary has again shown that justice is directed by law and not federal might, partisan colouration or other extra-legal dispositions. To this, we are deeply grateful to the court and wholeheartedly welcome the judgement.”
The PDP, in the statement, appealed to the APC, once again, to join hands with Mr Emmanuel to develop the state.
“To the opposition APC, we renew our call for partnership in the execution of the Akwa Ibom Project through the vehicle of the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
“We acknowledge the zeal and emotional investments committed to the Governorship quest by Obong Nsima Ekere, an illustrious Akwa Ibom son, who rose to the exalted office of Deputy Governor through the instrumentality of our party. He has fought the fight, ran the race, but the results are not in his favour.
“We urge him to avoid the temptation of escalation of commitment and rather view the Akwa Ibom project as the cynosure and act in the benefit of the larger interest of the people,” the PDP said.
Mr Emmanuel has also appealed to the APC to join his government in building Akwa Ibom. “Together, we will continue to re-write our story,” the governor said on Twitter immediately after the appeal court delivered its judgement.
The APC is yet to react to the appeal court judgement.

Court threatens to strike out FG’s case against Diezani Alison-Maudeke

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday threatened to strike out a charge of money laundering brought before it by the Federal Government against former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison Maudeke.
The presiding judge of the court, Justice Ijeoma Ojkukwu handed down the threat when, at the mention of the case initiated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the lawyer for the anti-graft agency, Farouk Abdallah said the Federal Government was having challenges effecting the ex-ministers extraction.
According to Abdallah, it was necessary to keep the case alive for the extradition process, already commenced, to be brought to fruition.

Why Osinbajo should fight back or resign – Arewa youths

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has charged Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to fight back because he has been ridiculed in the Presidency.

Speaking exclusively with DAILY POST, AYCF President General, Yerima Shettima warned that Osinbajo risked being removed if he failed to fight back or resign as Vice President.

Shettima stated this in reaction to the sack of some aides attached to the Vice President.

Insisting that the current government has undermined Osinbajo, Shettima wondered why the Vice President has remained silent in the face of his travail in the Presidency.

According to Shettima: “We have discovered that certain people at the corridors of power are manipulating the system for their selfish interest, like it or not somebody somewhere wants to ensure that the Vice President was put off the system so that he can’t find his way to the presidency in 2023.

“One thing about this government is no matter how they pretend, something is wrong. The moment they said the President and his Vice were in good terms I knew something was wrong because there can’t be smoke without a fire. Instead of sacking aides of the Vice President why not look at the National Assembly, if really they want to reduce the cost of governance in Nigeria why not look for a way of placing so many aides there doing nothing on allowances or reduce the number rather than look at the office of the Vice President.

“Some of us know that the battle line has been drawn. Osinbajo is serious being undermined, this is a clear indication that he is a target and they would pull him down. I’m surprised that he has not come out boldly to seek the sympathy of Nigerians and speak his mind. He is sitting there quietly because he wants to prove to Nigerians that he is a man of God. The issue of politics is not the matter of God, its about issues, professionalism must have to come to play. I know he is a Professor of law but he needs to come out and tell Nigerians what is going on, if he continues to stay quiet he will just wake up one morning and discovered that he has been removed.

“The office of the Vice President has been ridiculed so for me its either he’s out to fight or he resigns because if he doesn’t and can’t fight back then certainly they would remove him through any means. Nobody thought it was possible to remove the Chief Justice of the Federation but the did it easily, so how more the Vice President that is a spare tyre to the president. The head of the judiciary was removed and they frustrated him and nothing happened.”
