Ruga: IPOB talks tough over Arewa youths’ 30-day ultimatum

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared that states in the South-East of Nigeria will not budge over the 30-day ultimatum handed to them by the Coalition of Northern Youths over the Federal Government’s suspension of the controversial Ruga programme.
The separatist group, in a press release signed by its publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, vowed not to yield to the demand for land for the implementation of the Ruga settlement programme in the South-East.
“IPOB will support ranching business but in your own private land not forcing people to release their ancestral land to anybody or Fulani people.
“IPOB is a peaceful movement and must remain so but cannot allow anybody to trample on us by forcing our people to release their ancestral land to them. We are aware that cattle business remains personal business in Nigeria and cannot change today.
“We advise federal government of Nigeria and those behind this evil plan to retrace their steps before it spills over, claims more innocent lives and becomes uncontrollable,” the statement read.
Powerful pointed out that communities’ ancestral lands were gifts from God, handed over to them to dwell, which must not be taken over under any guise by the government or an ethnic group.
“We challenge Fulani Islamists terrorists including their Arewa youths to do their worst after the expiration of the so-called 30 days ultimatum as was widely reported in every national and international media.

“We are anxiously and eagerly waiting for them in whatever shape they may want it,” IPOB averred.

Seven suspected cultists face robbery, assault charges

Seven suspected cultists, who robbed a man of his phone and cash worth N73, 000 at knife point, on Wednesday, appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused are Sunday Stephen, 36; Hassan Terrang, 26; Hassan James, 34; Adelaja Ariyo, 48; Anthony Ojukwu, 33; Bitrus Abednego, 22 and Lucky Anzaku, 20.
They are standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy, robbery, stealing and assault.
All the seven accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ruben Solomon, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the alleged offences from June 19 to June 22 between 8.40 p.m. and 3 a.m. at Bush Bar, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Solomon alleged that the accused belonged to Arobaga and Aiye cult fraternity.
He said the accused robbed one Bright Chimeze of his Infinix phone valued N65, 000 and a cash sum of N8, 000 at knife point.
“The accused, while parading themselves as members of Arobaga and Aiye confraternity respectively, unlawfully assaulted one Chimeze by assaulting him with dangerous weapons.
“They were also found polluting the atmosphere by smoking weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and made the environment harmful to the health of the public, NAN reports.
“They also prevented the public from carrying out lawful businesses in the area,” Solomon said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 41, 164 (a), 170, 287 (1), 296 (2) and 411of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Mrs A. M. Davies granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant; be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned to July 31 for mention.

Nigeria loses $2.9b yearly to tax waivers

About 30 percent of companies operating in Nigeria evade tax while 25 percent of registered companies in the country are not paying tax, an international non-governmental organisation, Oxfam in Nigeria, has said.
The organisation said the country loses about $2.9billion or N580billion yearly to tax waivers granted to multinational companies.
Oxfam in Nigeria Country Director, Constant Tchona, stated these during the official unveiling of two reports: Fair Tax Monitor Index and the Commitment to Reducing Inequality Index, to the public on Wednesday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
He noted that the fiscal incentives granted with the hope of stimulating investments into the country’s economy are eroded with poor governance and lack of transparency.
Tchona said: “The fiscal incentives granted with the hope of stimulating investments into the country’s economy are eroded with poor governance and lack of transparency, especially when the Central Bank of Nigeria has confirmed that there is no cost-benefit analysis to justify the exemptions and when there is no check on the discretionary powers residing with the Executive in granting exemptions.
“The procedures for granting tax incentives should undergo a thorough review, focused on transparency and governance. This should include mandatory parliamentary oversight, publication of annual tax expenditure reports, clear requirements for incentives and periodic review of expected results.
The country director also said that taxpayers in the country often opt to negotiate with corrupt tax administration staff in return for gratifications and reduced sums to the coffers of the government.
Tchona explained that this action is against the sanctions imposed by Company Income Tax Act for such conduct.
He called on the Federal Government to fast-forward action on the new National Tax Policy approved and clamp down on corporate crimes.
He said: “Official FIRS numbers suggest that the entire tax system is fraught with crippling challenges of weak enforcement, corruption and outright evasion. The records show that about 30% of companies in Nigeria are involved in tax evasion and also 25% of registered companies in the country are not paying tax.
“Taxpayers often opt to negotiate with corrupt tax administration staff in return for gratifications and reduced sums to the coffers of the government. This is despite the sanctions imposed by the same Company Income Tax Act for such conduct.”
The Oxfam chief called on the National Assembly to enact law that would criminalise actions of banks, auditors, accountants and lawyers that facilitate illicit financial flows from the country.
He urged the legislative arm to not only introduce cutting-edge technology that would curb the act but specifically asked them to enact law that would punish enablers of tax evasion to face fines of up to 100 percent of tax evaded.
“The National assembly should enact a law that will criminalize totally the actions of middlemen – banks, auditors, accountants, and lawyers that facilitate Illicit Financial Flows. When such professionals act contrary to existing regulations, they should be held accountable in Nigeria. This can be enforced through strengthened professional association bodies.
“There is need for the Nigerian government to fast-forward action on the new National Tax Policy approved and clamp down on corporate crimes. New legislation and rules to cope with current realities should be enacted along with introduction of cutting-edge technology.
“The National Assembly should enact a law to punish the “enablers” of tax evasion such as lawyers, accountants and bankers, and should be made to face fines of up to 100 per cent of tax evaded.
“The tax system should be reviewed and amended to be more equitable to women as drivers of SMEs; most especially Personal Income Tax Act on unorganized sector needs to be amended to ensure they achieve gender equity, legitimate, and consistent with the government’s commitment to gender equity,” he said.

Anambra resident doctors suspend two-month-old strike

Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, COOUTH has suspended its two-month-old strike action.
A press statement signed by the president and secretary of the group, Dr Obinna Aniagboso and Dr Chidiebele Egolum respectively, which was made available to DAILY POST in Awka called on members to resume work as early as 8 am on Wednesday.
Part of the statement read, “We take this bold step in good faith with the expectation that the state government and management of COOUTH will not relent in their end until our agreed objectives are fully actualized.”
Resident doctors in the hospital had on 13th May announced their resolve to embark on an indefinite strike, and were also joined by their Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), thereby crippling the hospital.
Attempts by the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to pacify them with the promise to pay the new minimum wage had been rebuffed by the group, which insisted that their demands were more than just improved salaries.
Some of the demands of the group included; alleged failure of the state government to honour its agreement to implement full CONMESS for doctors and upgrade diagnostic facilities as befitting of a tertiary health centre.
The doctors said their struggle was just and needed to be addressed in order to retain trained, experienced personnel and improve the standard of clinical services in COOUTH.
The group said, “We noted the request of His Excellency(Obiano) for ARD to suspend its strike in order to give government a little time to complete the ongoing personnel audit and financial analysis.
“We also took cognizance of the resolution of the NMA leadership and elders meeting which advised ARD to suspend the strike for one month along with the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN).
“We considered the plight of our teeming patients who have become stranded and deprived of quality care throughout our protracted industrial action.
“We also accepted the concessions made by management on internal issues bordering on conditions of service and withheld remuneration, and intend to cooperate to ensure its full implementation.

“Considering the foregoing, the general congress passed a resolution to suspend it’s industrial action for one month and to resume work on Wednesday 17th July 2019 by 8am, ” the statement read.

Buhari Tells Jos People: I Feel Your Pains At This Difficult Moment

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the families of the victims of the building collapse in Jos, Plateau State, which claimed at least 14 lives.
According to figures released by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), 14 persons have so far died in the collapsed three-storey building in Dilimi Community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau.
Reacting to the incident on Tuesday night, President Buhari said he was greatly shocked at the unfortunate loss of lives and wished those injured a quick recovery.
He said: “I feel your pains at this difficult moment and my prayers, thoughts, and empathy are with you as you struggle to overcome the shock of this misfortune.”
While praying to God to comfort everyone affected by the sad incident, the President urged stakeholders in the building industry to find a lasting solution to the frequent incidents of building collapse across the country, the Voice of Nigeria reports.
President Buhari added: “There is the urgent need to address the issue of enforcing safety standards in our buildings in order to forestall future tragedies.”

Fani-Kayode reacts to call for herdsmen to leave Southern Nigeria

A former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the call by the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) for herdsmen to leave the Southern part of Nigeria.
We had reported on Tuesday that the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) has urged Fulani herders to leave Southern part of the country if the safety of their lives and property are not guaranteed.
The Chairman of the forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, who said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said that there was a move by some troublesome elements to engage herders with violence in the Southern part of the country.
“We have heard in the few hours ago that some violence had already started to manifest in some sections of the country against the herdsmen.
“But then, if there is no certainty that their safety is guaranteed by the authorities that are immediately around them or by the authorities that have responsibility for the overall security of all Nigerians wherever they reside, we are certainly worried about their wellbeing.
“If it is indeed true that their safety is not guaranteed in the places where they are residing, we would rather have them back into areas where there safety is guaranteed, and they should be coming back as much as possible to the North,” Abdullahi said.
Reacting, Fani-Kayode, in a tweet on Wednesday, commended NEF for the call, adding that it will help to restore peace, unity and national cohesion in Nigeria.
He tweeted: “I welcome the call by the NEF and the NCG for the Fulani herdsmen to leave the south.

“This will help restore peace, unity and national cohesion. They should leave the Middle Belt as well, renounce violence, stop the killings, stop the terror and turn in their deadly weapons.”

Rainstorm: 600 victims receive cash, relief materials in Ekiti

No fewer than 600 victims of rainstorm in Ekiti State have received succour from Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration as the state government flagged off distribution of cash and relief materials.
The victims were drawn from communities that suffered from the rainstorm that occurred on 8th, 20th of March and 2nd of April, this year.
Performing the official flag off of the distribution of cash and relief materials in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, said the gesture was to demonstrate the commitment of the state government to alleviate the pains of the rainstorm victims.
Egbeyemi, speaking through the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Tade Aluko, said the cash gift and relief items were palliative measures to ameliorate the loss the beneficiaries suffered during the rainstorm.
In a statement by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Deputy Governor, Odunayo Ogunmola, relief materials distributed included food stuffs, iron roofing sheets, nails, asbestos, mattresses, clothes, detergents, among others
One of the beneficiaries was the Alare of Are-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, Oba Jacob Boluwade Adebiyi, whose palace roof was recently blown off by rainstorm that wreaked havoc in his community.
The Deputy Governor explained that the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi would not relent in ensuring prompt intervention in whatever hardship the people of the state might be going through.

Egbeyemi stressed that the administration of Fayemi was committed to accountability and transparency in managing the commonwealth of the people.

He disclosed that the distribution of the relief material was a collaborative effort of both the State Government and Federal Government through National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Emphasizing the need to imbibe the culture of environmental preservation through the planting of trees, Egbeyemi, maintained that the use of quality building materials would reduce future

Open Letter: ‘He Spoke The Mind Of Nigerians’, Apostle Suleiman Backs Obasanjo

The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, has called on Nigerians to differentiate between politics and reality to solve the nation's security challenges.
He hailed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for writing an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari while warning those who called for his arrest to stop their threats.
Suleiman spoke when he visited Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, Benue State.
He said, “In Obasanjo’s letter, I did not see what he wrote there that has not been happening. People must draw a line between politics and reality. He spoke the mind of Nigerians and should not be castigated.
“I learned some people are calling for his arrest, but before anybody arrests Obasanjo, they should first arrest those who threatened the government by issuing a 30-days ultimatum to the government over the suspension of the RUGA settlement plan.
“Many leaders would prefer to defend their seats and positions at the expense of their people in such situations; the path Governor Ortom took was capable of costing him his second term election but he never bothered."

18 escape death as bus ram into cattle

No fewer than 18 passengers escaped death on Monday in an auto crash involving a commercial bus and herds of cattle.
The auto crash occurred at a steep portion of Efon Alaaye -Esa Oke highway close to the border between Ekiti and Osun states where four commuters reportedly sustained severe injuries out of the occupants.
The Nissan Mazda bus was said to have crashed into the crowded herd of cattle and somersaulted into the ditch where seven cows were killed.
According to an eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the situation could have degenerated but for swift actions taken by operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC).
The source explained the bus was coming at a high speed and was negotiating a bend very close to Ita Ore Junction in Efon Alaaye when it suddenly ran into the cattle numbering over 1,000.
He said the driver of the bus had lost control and rammed into the moving cattle before he swerved off the road and plunged into a ditch .
“Death could have been recorded but the FRSC men from Ita Ore in Efon Alaaye Ekiti quickly came to the rescue.
” They evacuated the four people that wounded and took them to the hospital for treatment”, the source said.
The FRSC Public Relations Officer in Ekiti, Mr. Mohammed Olowo confirmed the story.
Olowo said only one person was wounded contrary to the eyewitness account, which stated four.
“It was even a surprise to many that nobody died owing to the severity of the accident. But seven cows died during the collision,” he revealed

Kidnapping: I Cannot Go To My Hometown In Ondo Because Of Fear, Says Boroffice

Ajayi Boroffice, the senator representing Ondo-North senatorial district, has called on the Federal Government to  urgently address the issue of kidnapping in the country.
Boroffice made the call during a visit to the Akure residence of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, whose daughter, Funke Olakunrin, was killed by suspected herdsmen.
He said, “The government, which I’m part of, should find a solution to this problem. The people in Ondo State will still carry out their businesses. You can’t ask them not to go out. In the senate, we discuss this issue of insecurity on a regular basis.
“I’m here in Akure now. I would have loved to go to Oka, my hometown, but the fear is that how do I move from Akure to Oka because there is a spot near Oba where these people (kidnappers) are. So, this issue is affecting everybody.
“It’s not something that we should feel unconcerned about. We are all concerned and I believe there is ongoing talks to find a solution to this problem.”

Edo: What will happen if Obaseki leaves APC for Oshiomhole – Idahosa

A former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Edo State, Charles Idahosa, has issued a stern warning to his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Idahosa said the ruling party risks extinction in the state if Governor Godwin Obaseki is forced to leave following the ongoing faceoff between him and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Idahosa reiterated his call for the resignation of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the APC.
He pointed out that peace will be restored in the Edo Assembly if the 15 lawmakers-elect comply with the party’s directive on zoning of leadership in the Assembly.
Idahosa spoke with newsmen in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Monday.
He declared that himself and many other leaders of the party would join Obaseki to other political parties if the need arises.
Reacting to the claims that the Governor was ungrateful to Oshiomhole for bringing him to power, Idahosa explained that it was Obaseki that first helped Oshiomhole raised millions of naira to enable him contest elections in 2007.
He said, “Oshiomhole should resign and stop embarrassing Edo people and the rest of Nigerians. For a National Chairman of a party to lose five states is an insult to our sensibility.
“Obaseki won all the 24 seats in the Assembly but Oshiomhole media aides gave the credit to Oshiomhole.
“They are harassing Obaseki so that progress in the state can stop. Nobody has told us what Obaseki has done.
“Those lawmakers are now in Abuja engaging themselves in financial bargaining as exposed by Seid Oshiomhole confession on social media.

“Let them come home and destabilise Edo. If by error or commission Obaseki is pushed out, then APC is dead in Edo.”

Obasanjo's Latest Open Letter To Buhari: You Have Mismanaged Our Diversity, Nigeria Dangerously Reaching Tipping Point

Nigeria's former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned President Muhammadu Buhari in an open letter on the potential danger of current problems facing the country.
Obasanjo, expressed his worry in an open letter released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi on Monday.
The letter read, “I am constrained to write to you this open letter. I decided to make it an open letter because the issue is very weighty and must be greatly worrisome to all concerned Nigerians and that means all right-thinking Nigerians and those resident in Nigeria.
“The issue I am addressing here is very serious; it is the issue of life and death for all of us and for our dear country, Nigeria. This issue can no longer be ignored, treated with nonchalance, swept under the carpet or treated with cuddling gloves.
“The issue is hitting at the foundation of our existence as Nigerians and fast eroding the root of our Nigerian community. I am very much worried and afraid that we are on the precipice and dangerously reaching a tipping point where it may no longer be possible to hold danger at bay.
“When people are desperate and feel that they cannot have confidence in the ability of government to provide security for their lives and properties, they will take recourse to anything and everything that can guarantee their security individually and collectively."
"For over ten years," Obasanjo said, "for four of which you have been the captain of the ship, Boko Haram has menacingly ravaged the land and in spite of government’s claim of victory over Boko Haram, the potency and the activities of Boko Haram, where they are active, remain undiminished, putting lie to government’s claim.
"The recent explanation of the Chief of Army Staff for non-victory due to lack of commitment and lack of motivation on the part of troops bordering on sabotage speaks for itself."
Continuing, he added, "Say what you will, Boko Haram is still a daily issue of insecurity for those who are victimized, killed, maimed, kidnapped, raped, sold into slavery and forced into marriage and for children forcibly recruited into carrying bombs on them to detonate among crowds of people to cause maximum destructions and damage. And Boko Haram will not go away on the basis of sticks alone, carrots must overweigh sticks. How else do you deal with issues such as only about 50% literacy in North-East with over 70% unemployment?
"Herdsmen/farmers crises and menace started with the government treating the issue with cuddling glove instead of a hammer. It has festered and spread.
"Today, it has developed into banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and killings all over the country. The unfortunate situation is that the criminality is being perceived as a ‘Fulani’ menace unleashed by Fulani elite in the different parts of the country for a number of reasons but even more, unfortunately, many Nigerians and non-Nigerians who are friends of Nigeria attach vicarious responsibility to you as a Fulani elite and the current captain of the Nigeria ship. Perception may be as potent as reality at times.
"Whatever may be the grievances of Fulanis, if any, they need to be put out in the open and their grievances, if legitimate, be addressed; and if other ethnic groups have grievances, let them also be brought out in the open and addressed through debate and dialogue.
"The main issue, if I may dare say, is poor management or mismanagement of diversity which, on the other hand, is one of our greatest and most important assets. As a result, the very onerous cloud is gathering. And the rain of destruction, violence, disaster, and disunity can only be the outcome.
"Nothing should be taken for granted, the clock is ticking with the cacophony of dissatisfaction and disaffection everywhere in and outside the country. The Presidency and the Congress in the US have signaled to us to put our house in order. The House of Lords in the UK had debated the Nigerian security situation. We must understand and appreciate the significance, implication and likely consequences of such concerns and deliberations.
"No one can stop hate speech, violent agitation, and smoldering violent agitation if he fans the embers of hatred, disaffection, and violence. It will continue to snowball until it is out of control. A stitch in time saves nine, goes the old wise saying.
"With the death of Funke, Chief Fasoranti’s daughter, some sympathetic Nigerian groups are saying 'enough is enough'. Prof. Anya, a distinguished Nigerian merit Laureate, has this to say “We can no longer say with certainty that we have a nation”. Niger-Delta leaders, South-Eastern leaders, Middle-Belt leaders, and Northern Elders Forum have not remained quiet.
"Different ordinary Nigerians at home and abroad are calling for different measures to address or ameliorate the situation. All the calls and cries can only continue to be ignored at the expense of Nigerian unity, if not its continued existence.
"To be explicit and without equivocation, Mr. President and General, I am deeply worried about four avoidable calamities:
1. abandoning Nigeria into the hands of criminals who are all being suspected, rightly or wrongly, as Fulanis and terrorists of Boko Haram type;
2. spontaneous or planned reprisal attacks against Fulanis which may inadvertently or advertently mushroom into pogrom or Rwanda-type genocide that we did not believe could happen and yet it happened.
3. similar attacks against any other tribe or ethnic group anywhere in the country initiated by rumors, fears, intimidation and revenge capable of leading to pogrom;
4. violent uprising beginning from one section of the country and spreading quickly to other areas and leading to the dismemberment of the country.
"It happened to Yugoslavia not too long ago. If we do not act now, one or all of these scenarios may happen. We must pray and take effective actions at the same time. The initiative is in the hands of the President of the nation, but he cannot do it alone.
"In my part of the world, if you are sharpening your cutlass and a mad man comes from behind to take the cutlass from you, you need other people’s assistance to have your cutlass back without being harmed. The madmen with serious criminal intent and terrorism as core value have taken cutlass of security. The need for assistance to regain control is obviously compelling and must be embraced now.
"A couple of weeks ago at a public lecture, I had said, among other things, that in all these issues of mobilization for national unity, stability, security, cooperation, development, growth, and progress, there is no consensus.
"Like in the issue of security, the government should open up discussion, debate, and dialogue as part of consultation at different levels and the outcome of such deliberations should be collated to form inputs into a national conference to come up with the solution that will effectively deal with the issues and lead to rapid development, growth, and progress which will give us a wholesome society and enhanced living standard and livelihood in an inclusive and shared society.
"It will be a national program. We need unity of purpose and nationally accepted strategic roadmap that will not change with whims and caprices of any government. It must be owned by the citizens, people’s policy and strategy implemented by the government no matter it's color and leaning.
"Some of the groups that I will suggest be contacted are: traditional rulers, past heads of service (no matter how competent or incompetent they have been and how much they have contributed to the mess we are in), past heads of paramilitary organisations, private sector, civil society, community leaders particularly in the most affected areas, present and past governors, present and past local government leaders, religious leaders, past Heads of State, past intelligence chiefs, past Heads of Civil Service and relevant current and retired diplomats, members of opposition and any groups that may be deemed relevant.
"The President must be seen to be addressing this issue with utmost seriousness and with maximum dispatch and getting all hands on deck to help.
"If there is a failure, the principal responsibility will be that of the President and no one else. We need cohesion and concentration of effort and maximum force – political, economic, social, psychological and military – to deal successfully with the menace of criminality and terrorism separately and together.
"Blame game among own forces must be avoided. It is debilitating and only helpful to our adversary. We cannot dither anymore. It is time to confront this threat headlong and in a manner that is holistic, inclusive and purposeful.
"For the sake of Nigeria and Nigerians, I pray that God may grant you, as our President, the wisdom, the understanding, the political will and the courage to do what is right when it is right and without fear or favor. May God save, secure, protect and bless Nigeria. May He open to us a window of opportunity that we can still use to prevent the worst happening. As we say in my village, 'May God forbid bad thing'."

Buhari, APC, INEC reject Atiku, PDP’s move to play rigging video in court

President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have objected to the move by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to play a video before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).
The Nation reports that their lawyers objected when the petitioners’ lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN) invited Atiku’s Media Aide, Segun Showunmi, through whom Uche intended to play the video recordings and tender about 48 documents.
But, Alex. Izinyon (SAN), for Buhari; Adeniyi Akintola (SAN); and Yunus Usman (SAN), for INEC kicked on on the grounds that the petitioners did not front-load the items as required under the Electoral Act.

Tribunal Chairman, Justice Mohammed Garba, then stood down proceedings to consider arguments by parties and rule on whether or not to allow the document and video recordings.

Oil prices nudge up on Chinese economic data

Oil prices rose slightly on Monday as Chinese industrial output and retail data topped expectations but gains were capped by overall figures showing the country’s slowest quarterly economic growth in decades.
Brent crude futures LCOc1 rose 40 cents, or 0.6per cent, to $67.12 a barrel by 0923 GMT, while U.S. crude CLc1 was up 19 cents, or 0.32 per cent, at $60.40 a barrel.
Both contracts last week posted their biggest weekly gains in three weeks on cuts in U.S. oil production and diplomatic tensions in the Middle East.
Asian and early European trading was boosted by the more positive Chinese economic data, which may indicate early success in government stimulus efforts and potentially more oil demand in the world’s number two economy.
Analysts at ANZ bank said China’s crude oil imports year to date still looked impressive, even as imports fell in June for a second straight month.
“We believe additional crude oil quota (given) to private refiners should keep imports upbeat in H2 2019,’’ they said.
China’s crude oil throughput rose to a record of 13.07 million barrels per day in June, up 7.7 per cent from a year earlier, following the start up of two new, large refineries, official data showed on Monday.
Still economic growth of just 6.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2019.
The worst in 27 years signalled the impact of trade tensions with Washington and raised the possibility that more incentives might be needed to jumpstart the economy.
Despite a truce agreed between the Chinese and U.S. presidents last month, the trade war remains unresolved.
The Paris based International Energy Agency said in its monthly report on Friday that abundant output and sluggish growth would leave oil markets increasingly over supplied going into 2020.
“As far as 2019 is concerned, the more cautious demand stance is now well established in the market and across most forecasters,’’ consultancy JBC energy said in a note.
Refineries in the path of Tropical Storm Barry continued to operate, although the storm has slashed U.S. Gulf of Mexico crude output by 73 per cent, or 1.38 million barrels per day.
In the Middle East, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised speech on Sunday that Iran is ready to hold talks with the United States.
He added that if Washington lifts sanctions and returns to the 2015 nuclear deal it quit in 2019.
Meanwhile, Britain has offered to facilitate the release of the detained Iranian oil tanker Grace 1 if Tehran gave guarantees that it would not go to Syria.

Calling on Christians to praise God at all times, he said the most important thing in life is praising God in season and out of season.
Quoting Isaiah 43:7: “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have forged him; yea, I have made him”, the cleric said humans are created to praise God and to glorify him day-by-day.
