GROUP WANTS PROTECTION FROM SECURITY OPERATIVES FROM STUDENT CULT ATTACKS

Recently, more than 20 female students of the Benue State University, Markurdi , were raped and robbed by suspected  cultists who invaded their hostel. Some of the victims said the assailants stormed the Technical block of the female Hostel about 10pm on the sad day, beat them up, raped and carted away their valuables, saying the University Security Operatives did not come to their rescue as the armed men brutalized and abused them during the operation.

A source, who pleaded anonymity revealed that the attack made it the third in the past month. These attacks, according to a survey carried out, are not limited to University environs alone, following the arrest and rustication of confirmed cultists from various tertiary institutions as a result of anti-cult groups who serve as informants to university authorities and security operatives, there is a general assumption that cultists have vowed to avenge the rustication and arrests of their members in recent times and the past to frustrate and discourage anti-cult groups and campaigns.
A few weeks back, one 22 year old, Micheal agbo was killed in the place of his brother by suspected cultists after destroying the family home in Ita-Oluwo, a surburb of Ikorodu, Lagos State. it was learnt that about 8 suspected cultists stormed the family residence, asking for one Emmanuel Agbo who was said not to be in as at the time of the attack, the family was held hostage, the house vandalized and the younger brother, Michael, in an attempt to flee and get help was shot and slashed all over.
One could only wonder as to why such act of cruelty. With the increase in the recent trend of attacks on anti-cult members and their families in addition to the increasing number of public and private tertiary institutions in the country, the network and activities are widely spreading throughout the country as well as surrounding neigbouring countries.
An appeal is being made to law enforcement agencies and the university security opratives to step up their game and ensure they protect the identity of the anti cult members and also curb the nefarious activities of these students both within and outside the campus community.
