Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Monday urged members of the National Youth Service Corps to contribute their quotas to national integration and the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
The governor said, “As future leaders, you have prominent roles to play in the unity and development of this country. I enjoined you to contribute your quota to national integration”.
Fayemi, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Mr Michael Awopetu, spoke during the swearing-in of the 2019 Batch C, Stream II corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, in Ise-Orun Emure-Ekiti.
He advised the new corps members posted to the state to shun all forms of corrupt practices that could affect the image of the NYSC, while assuring them of adequate security throughout their stay in the state.
He said “Exemplary and outstanding corps members whose primary assignment projects impact positively on the development of their host communities will be rewarded accordingly”.
Fayemi, who advised the corps members to use the opportunity of the mandatory service year for capacity building, said, “I have been informed that you will be trained on drills and parade, leadership training and skills acquisition, as well as entrepreneurship development. I urge you to participate actively in these activities as knowledge without skills is not enough for our today’s economy.
“As a government, we place high premium on youths. Consequently, the corps members deployed to Ekiti State will not be left out. The interested ones among you will be engaged to drive the agricultural development of the state.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongette, appealed to the state government to assist the scheme in the renovation of its orientation camp and the building of a befitting multi-purpose hall to ensure more conducive orientation exercise in the camp.
Okpongette urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC scheme, stressing Nigerians are waiting for them as future leaders.
