The Hope Democratic Party, HDP, Monday insisted through its first witness, Yusuf Ibrahim at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, that a referendum held on February 16, showed that its presidential candidate, Albert Owuru, won and emerged as Nigeria’s President.
Ibrahim, who appeared before the five-man tribunal led by Justice Mohammed Garba, as the petitioners’ first witness, said the referendum held physically and not in the spiritual realm as suggested by a respondent’s lawyer.
The petitioners – HDP and Owuru also opened and closed their case with only one witness and some documents tendered as exhibits.
The tendered documents were some copies of newspapers, a document titled ‘Citizen Observers Referendum Election Right Protection of Nigeria, and INEC final list of presidential candidates.
The respondents said they would not be calling any witness to defend the case and urged the tribunal to order the filing of final addresses.
In his ruling, the tribunal chairman, Justice Garba adjourned the matter to August 5, for the adoption of written addresses.
