NDLEA prosecutes four Mexicans, others for producing illicit drugs


Methamphetamine is regarded as a hard drug and its unlawful production is prohibited by the authorities as it poses grave danger to humans and the environment.

The NDLEA, along with other relevant agencies, also destroyed forfeited 89,652.84 kilogrammes of assorted narcotic drugs worth over 100 million Naira estimated street value.

The narcotic exhibits seized within Delta State were jointly set ablaze in accordance with orders of the Federal High Court to all relevant agencies and the state government, Tuesday, at the NDLEA office in Ogwashi-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area.

Chairman of the agency, Col Muhammad Abdallah (rtd) described the destruction as symbolic and strategic both to the agency and drug control policies of the government, stressing that seized drugs remained a threat until they are destroyed.

He said: “In 2012, a total of 54,879.53 of drugs were destroyed and today, a hug numbers of drugs will be destroyed. It is regrettable that despite all the efforts of the federal and state governments to address the scourge of drug cultivation and production in the country, criminals have continued to carry out these nefarious activities.”
