Great The Senate on Tuesday after a closed-door session supported the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
The House Representatives at its special session on Monday had asked the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to shelve its planned strike schedule to start on Wednesday.
The Senate however urged the Federal Government to start the implementation of the palliative measures contained in the 2016 Budget to ease the hardship of the subsidy removal on Nigerians.
In another development, the Senate has thrown out the frivolous petition bill 2015 (SB. 143), otherwise known as anti- social media bill.
The bill sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na'Allah (APC, Kebbi South) set the Senate against the public when it passed through second reading late last year.
The Senators took the decision following the report of the committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the bill.
Delivering the report, Chairman of the Committee, Senator David Umaru (APC, Niger East) said the bill was opposed by almost all stakeholders during the Public Hearing on it. Therefore, he said, his committee recommended its withdrawal.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, also backed the withdrawal.
